Thinking ahead to a new project does anyone know if any of the sport compact fwd engines can be converted to rwd using a standard trans. Or maybe even a MR2 rear engine?
The Ford 2.0 can be and Ford has the pieces for that..check with ford performance for that..Even has a supercharger available..should make a light car fly..
It depends on the engine family. For instance, the same basic 2.5L toyota 4 came installed in both FWD and RWD cars, but they had different block castings. Depending on your application it may not make a difference, but often times the bellhousings are different, maybe the starter moved to the other side, and motor mounts are usually totally different. Same goes for GMs 60*v6s. Different stuff altogether.
I'm sure you'll find some that are identical in both applications, but you might be wise to just use an existing RWD import engine if it was available.
are you looking for just an engine? if so, and you want to make a rocketship use an RB26DETT out of a skyline. most of the Nissans were rwd, and they make some peppy motors.
Yeah, the Z motors were all RWD, either V6 or I6. Some of them 350 hp in stock form.
