Frozen EGR?

I was driving to class last night and had gone about 4 miles or so from home and my check engine light came on. Everything was still running fine and nothing seemed out of place, but to be safe I turned back around and got my dads car. Anyway I took it to a local mechanic I use and had him check the code etc. It came back as "EGR Pinnicle" forgive the spelling, he said when he pulled the EGR it looked like it had frozen. Has anyone one else had this happen? He said he just cleaned it up and cleared the code and all is well.

Vechicle is a 1997 Blazer with a 4.3 in it.

It's a fairly common problem. I'm sure your mechanic told you that if it continues to act up, you'll have to replace it, and you will. It's pretty cool in this day to see a mechanic that will give you a break and not sock it to first thing to make a fast buck. Sometimes it's just a loose piece of carbon flake getting stuck in the egr and after cleaning the thing works fine.

Just replaced the EGR position sensor on my '89 Bronco. Had been getting the check engine light and pulled codes. Fixed er right up.

The guy is a local racer and between my dad and myself we have brought him a fair amount of business. I just dont know enough about newer engines or have the time to work on them.
