The outlet on my fuel cell is loose and it is leaking, is there any way to tighten the nut on the outlet or do I have to buy a new fuel cell. The outer nut just spins around and I don't see any way to get inside to hold the interior nut while tightening the outside nut. Any help is appreciated.

They figured out how to do it when the cell was manufactured. Probably with a socket, a couple of u-joints and long extensions. Have your bride hold the flashlight.

I have had a couple do that and I was lucky, the filler hole was somewhat large...so I recruited my daughter ..who has some really skinny arms....(one more way she doesn't resemble me ) ....and with those skinny arms she was able to reach inside with a wrench...


One time I welded a cheap wrench to a long piece of 1/4" by 1" flat bar and bent it around to fish inside the tank and get on the nut...

You could try to pound an easy out into the fitting and hold it from turning from the outside while you tighten up the nut..

Or grab it down low below the external threads with some needle nose vise grips and hold it from the top like that...

Or try a butterfly impact and shock the nut down tight by short bursts on the trigger..

Any body know the size of the interior nut, is it the same size as the outside?.This cell has foam inside, I don't know if I can get the foam out of the way. Not a bad idea about some small hands inside holding the nut.

Usually those bulkhead fittings have the same size inside and out.

Mel, I had a similar problem. I had to remove the filler then remove the foam and reach my hand inside. How is your fuel cell constructed, is it a plastic cell or aluminum? Mine was plastic and had a metal ring with a gasket bolted to the filler opening. I removed the ring and the hole was big though to fit my hand through.

Try wrapping duct tape on outlet fitting,to protect threads.Grab fitting with pliers then try tighten nut,I,ve had success with this,but not all situations are the same.good luck

Thanks for all the input guys. My son came over tonight and he was able to get on the inside nut with a long handle 1" open end wrench and was able to hold it while I tightened the outside nut. Problem solved. Thanks again for your answers.
