Fuel gauge erroneous reading

So i installed a brand new fuel sending unit in my tank and now my gauge reads 1/4, but I'm pretty sure it's almost empty. Any suggestions?

Take the sending unit out of the tank and sweep it through the range of motion, see if it's going all the way, you might have to adjust the float.

Yes it could be laying on the bottom of the tank.

My tank is 20 gallons and I filled up today with 15 gallons, so that means with the gauge reading 1/4 it was correct.
