Fuel Pressure Reg. and Gauge

I am installing my fuel system and have a fuel pressure regulator with one inlet, and 2 outlets. My question is can I use one outlet to run to the carb and the second outlet to put a bushing in it and stick my gauge there for an accurate reading, or do I need to plug it and put the gauge in the actual inlet line? Also is there a specific RPM I should be running to set the pressure and what PSI should I shoot for on a Quadrajet.

plug the gauge right in the second outlet... pretty sure q jets work best at 6 PSI
