How many rubber lines do you have? One or two?
If one, it should be a 3/8" "inlet" hose. If you have a second line, it's a fuel return line and is usually 1/4". It returns unused fuel back to the tank and helps keep the pump cool and helps prevent vapor lock.

If you have 2 rubber hoses on the car but only one pipe on the pump, you got the wrong pump.
The threaded fitting goes to the carb.

Maybe I'm not understanding your question.
That pump has two threaded holes for your fuel lines. One "in" from the tank, and one "out" to the carb.

Again, does your car have TWO rubber hoses that run back towards the tank? If so, you have the wrong pump. You will need a "three line pump", inlet, outlet to carb, and fuel return line.
Also, according to theHolley web site
, that pump is preset at 7.5 pounds of pressure. If you are running a Qjet carb, it will probably be too much pressure and cause immediate flooding or at least run pretty rich. Qjets don't need more than 4-5.5 pounds.

Glad to help. (My wife has an 86 305 4bbl caprice)

Check out Napa or any good parts store. You should be able to find a NEW Airtex or similar pump for about 25 bucks that will be more Qjet friendly and have the correct hoses for your car.

Wow, finding parts in the diff is never good! LOL I think its time to pull the over again and have a real good look at all the parts. If it was from a previous "fix", someone did a crappy job of cleaning out the housing and tubes. Not to mention that crap floating around in the oil and possibly taking out the pinion and carrier bearings and pitting the ring and pinion. Look it over real good!

After you've fished out all the metal that you can find (might use a telescoping magnet to reach down the tubes some) you can mount a magnet to the inside of the cover like some diffs come from the OM with.
