fuel question...

ok so i bought a crate engine a little over a year ago and ive been driving it around since. i noticed that i was running WAY too rich and decided to rejet the carb one size leaner on the primaries. it still felt like i was getting too much fuel into the carb and to make sure i put a pressure gauge on the thing and i was getting roughly 6.5-8psi. the manuel for the carb said not too exceed 6.5psi. i then decided to install a regulator. it's definitely not running rich but sometimes falls on its face in the low rpm range. now i was wondering, since i installed that regulator, do i rejet the carb to how it was?

You say low rpm range as in a corner, quick stop? check the float adjustment. If the rejet cleaned up the rich condition I'd leave that alone for now and watch the plugs for a bit.

You would be wise to get a tuning book that deals with your make of carb so you can dial it in. It would be money well spent.

turns out, it was the regulator that failed and wasnt letting gas get to the carb. and when i checked the part number on the fuel pump, it was a 8psi pump. carb only requires no more than 6.5. so i ended up buying the pump that compliments the carb and now she runs great. im still new at this stuff, so a tuning book is a great idea. i didnt even know they had tuning books but i will look into one. thanks guys!
