fuel regulator

Got a question for the experts. I have an old adjustable regulator I'm going to put on my SBC but the question comes up how to plumb it. It has three fittings, On one side is the inlet, the other side goes to the carburetor and what is the fitting for on the bottom? Return line or a place to hook up a gage?
Thanks for your help. Jerry

What kind is it? There are ones that have two outlets and one that has one outlet and a return line.
