I have installed a ford bronco gas tank under the bed of my 56 chevy truck. The gauge was working fine when it was hooked up to the origanal tank and sending unit. I am having problems getting it to work with the new tank. If I take the sending unit out and ground it to the frame of the truck it works but it is backwards. Empty position shows full, full position shows empty on the gauge. When I install it back in the tank I can not get it to work at all. I would appreciate it if anyone knew what I could do to fix it

The problem is with your output from your sending units. GM and Ford/Chrysler are totally different. The output from pre 1989 ford/Chrysler's is 73 ohms Empty and 8-12 ohms Full. GMs output for pre 1965 is 0 ohms Empty and 30 ohms Full. 1965 an up GMs are 0 ohms Empty and 90 ohms Full. You'll need an early GM sending unit. If you junk yard one make sure the tank is as close to the same depth as your Bronco tank or you won't get an accurate reading either. You could also check with some of the GM restoration outfits for a universal 30 ohm sender. :thumbup:

Thanks for the info. One other question. When I upgrade to modern gauge in my truck will it work then or will I still need a gm unit. Or maybe I just need to buy a gauge for a ford.

As long as your bronco tank is from an 1989 or earlier model an after market gage for a pre 89 Ford will work fine. That would also be your easiest way out. Because of the difference in sending units you must match the gage to the sending unit..:thumbup:
