Fuel System

I'm working on a puttling an electric fuel pump on a 88 Mustang GT that has been converted to carb. I'm planning on just rerouting the wires from the stock pump and connecting them to the electric pump. I was told that I need to change the pickup. Can someone who has done this before give me some pointers, before I get started?

You will need to remove the pump from the tank and install a pickup tube with a strainer.
