Fuel System-Open

Hmmm...the Roadster I bought was built by an "expert." I am trying to figure out why the fuel tank was vented by running the vent hose into the trunk and then back to the vent tube. I suspect that whatever the goal, it did not work and the vent hose was cut. Does anyone know why I should not run the vent hose directly to the vent tube? I have tried to capture the problem with the pictures. Oh, It is painfully slow to fill the gas tank. Maybe the builder thought venting was the problem. Notice the kink. That would explain the cut. However, the problem with filling the tank has more to do with a horizontal fill tube with two right angles. At least that would be my guess.

I am in favor of running a short vent hose to the vent tube. What do you think?

I'm confused. It looks like the vent line has been cut to make it operate as a vent, but it is venting into the trunk area of the car and creating a potential bomb. Is that right?

Vent the tank to the outside of the car.

Nope...not very smart venting into the trunk, but I have corrected the problem. I just can't believe it was done the way it was done.
