im needing a new tank because it is full of rust and the walls are too thin to be repaired. my problem is i can only find them for 59-64 and 66 & up, no 65. the body styles didnt change a whole lot for 65 and 66 so im wondering what the difference is between the tanks, and if there isnt then why not list them as 65 & up. i guess i need to invest into a ford parts interchange book.

'65 was the first year of the new chassis (coils in the rear) and I think the '66 should fit fine, it may just be tank capacity that's different. I'll check my interchange manual this afternoon and post later, I think it should be fine. It could also be something as simple as changes made for the emmisions atandards that were beginning to surface.

The MPC lists the 65 fuel tank at 20 gal. capacity, the 66/68 at 25 gal capacity. It also lists different filler pipes for each year but the same support straps. My guess is that they will interchange, but will have to change the sending unit most likely and possibly the filler pipe from a 66. Is there a bone yard nearby that might have a later model for a quick visual examination?
