Fuel Tank cleaning

How would I go about cleaning the fuel tank on a 1965 Mustang? I'm replacing the fuel pump and fuel lines next, and I am thinking about cleaning out the tank as well, as I don't know when it was cleaned last (if ever). do I just drop the tank drain the gas out into a big gas can and put some kind of solution on it? Is there anything special I should use? Thanks. Also, when I puel my fuel pump, is any oil gonna come rushing out, or will all the oil be in the pan by that time and should I not expect any to leak out?

you don't clean a gas tank, you replace it when it leaks

you have a filter on the pump to clean the gas coming from the tank, replace the filter per the manual mileage instructions, your tank is old and corroded = more scale, change it twice as often as recommended

you don't change a fuel pump until it tests bad for pressure

you don't replace gas lines till they leak

YOU DO REPLACE THE STEEL BRAKE LINES AND BRAKE HOSES if they are old and corroded even if they are not leaking!

If you feel you have to clean it, take it down and pour out the contents. Pour in about a quart of kerosene and drop in a length of chain. Get a couple of buddies over to help you slosh it around and back and forth. This should dislodge rust and crud. Repeat as many times as are necessary to get clean kerosene when you empty it. Re-install and change all fuel filters.
