Fuel and Temp Gage

I have an 85 T-Bird that has had a voltage problem with the fuel and tep gage for years. They go all the way to the right at times, the temp shows over heating and the gas gage shows full, both at the same time. I have found that it is possibly the gage voltage regulator that need to have the contacts cleaned or replace it. I can't find out where it is located in the car. Looking at two different books with wireing diagrams, it looks like it is in the middle back side of the insterment panel. I hear that this is common with Fords. I have been told that it will look like a nine volt battery with the plug-ins on it that will need to be cleaned. Has any one ever found one in a Ford before? Let me know so that I will have some idea as to where I can find mine.

Older Fords (60's) used a 5 volt instrument panel voltage regulator, but I think that design was gone by '85. If there is a regulator in your cluster, it may be built in to a larger assembly.

I'd also check carefully for the panel grounds. Many instrument panel problems are due to bad ground wires.
