full of crap?!

Men, women and children-

I'm not going to name any names here, but I see a couple of people here and there who post somewhat regularly and give advice about just about every subject, but are more than likely full of BS. I think we all step out of our bounds sometimes and make assumptions (I've been known to stick my foot in my mouth from time to time) but those usually get cleared up.

What do you folks do when you see somebody posting and giving advice about things that its pretty obvious they know nothing about? It does say in the guidelines for posting, after all, that you shouldn't post on a subject that you don't know about (which is not to say anything negative, on the contrary, it gives you a chance to gain useful info!). I guess its not an epidemic or anything, just wondering what you folks do-

K

Perhaps this message should be directed to a moderator.

And if you believe somebody is misdirecting someone, consider sending their post to the attention of a moderator. That is what they are there for.

Just keep in mind, you should try to be sure they're full of it before you accuse them. Somebody out there usually knows more than you do.

"You talkin' to me? . . . YOU talkin' to ME!?. . . "

Actually, I just learn who is and isn't credible and pay attention to the good ones. I have a couple of people on my ignore list 'cause they rarely say anything useful. Those who are blatantly harmful are viciously (and rightfully) attacked and shut down so an occasional bad opinion doesn't seem to be that harmful. In a free market democracy "Buyer Beware" is vastly preferable to any type of 'governmental' control. Also, some opinions that appear to be bogus are likely ones that the poster holds as truth so they can't be chastised for that. However, if it is an honest error they will learn along with the rest of us. The troll type will be cleansed in due time.

I think you're right willy's, I guess its just sort of annoying. Its just people who give out all this advice and have probably never really done anything but read about building motors in a book, know what I mean?

contact the person

PM the person in question and ask them where they are coming from.. And or report the post to the moderators for them to take action on. You might also post with the corrected info so as to give the person asking the question a choice.

I always get a kick out of the members who have a bzillion advice posts and then ask how to open their hoods!

What rubs me are the ones who always seem to have problem, after problem, after problem. I know it happens some time, but I suspect these guys lay awake at night thinking of a problem they can start a new post.

My $.02

C'mon killer....name names...we know that you want to......

I believe the people that give this advise actually think that they are trying to help. If they are wrong about something, let them know. If I was wrong about something, I would want to know.

eh I'm not interested in a bunch of drama, I just was wondering. Really what I'm talking about aren't people who have solved a problem in the past and want to offer advice but its incorrect, I'm talking about people who have no friggin experience and just talk all day long with the best of them giving crap advice time and time again. Whatever I guess, that's what the ignore button is for-

Maybe you should just send any threads, or posts to a moderator with the specific persons name instead of making us all paranoid. And I dont want to see my name there, I try to help out in the engine forum, and anytime I can find something about oldsmobile or the 200C/2004R in the transmission forum. Other than that I dwell in the lounge, dont know much about car electrical systems, suspension, etc. so I dont post any advice in those, Just questions.
