I have a 1997 chevy 1/2 ton 4x4 and i noticed that the main connector for power on the under hood fuse block is loose and has some melted plastic on it. I am wondering do all the wires on the bottom of the fuse block plugin for easy changing or what the deal is.
That melted plastic is a sign that there is corrosion or a loose connection that has drastically increased the resistance of that junction which results in heat and eventually a fire. To answer your question, no the wires do not simply plug into the back of the fuse block. They are crimped to metal terminals that snap into the back of the fuse block and those metal terminals hold the fuses. You need a tool to get the terminals from the back of the block. Sounds like it's about time for a rewire job.
Well this sounds like fun. i know where the loose connection is. now i just need to change it. i got a used fuse box from the wrecker. so what kind of tool is it that i need and where can i get it. thanks for the input.
If you got the used fuse block doesn't it come with all the terminations and some wire? I would have specified a fuse block for your exact year and model with the wiring harness attached all the way to whatever connectors it terminates to.
