The future of our hobby....???

Or does it have a future...?

Sorry if I seem to be political on this topic. It is not my intention. But rather I see this more as a threat to our hobby and it is something we must be made aware of....

Green Protestors want to end the Woodward Cruise

http://www.thecarconnection.com/blog/?p=586

I fear this movement appears to be gaining in North America... Now Al Gore's documentary is mandatory in most schools in Nova Scotia... Kids are led to believe not only are SUVs evil but so are sports cars, muscle cars, hot rods, Vettes, etc. No film countering Gore's hysteria is offered, no rebuttal....

AND Yes, I've very angry as this maybe the biggest threat to our hobby yet...
This mindset is gaining momentum. So once SUVs are banned our rods maybe next...

Do any others share my concern? Or am I being paranoid?

Banning a cruise is simply putting your finger in the dike to stop a flood!

In Los Angeles we have a section of freeway called the 605. Semi trucks outnumber cars 2-1, maybe more. You can't believe the toxic deisel smoke billowing off these guys.

I love this planet, but until they put some regulations on truckers and airliners and factories..............DON"T stick your nose in MY garage.

My daily .02 rant!

I expect it to "morph" and change direction to extremely light cars (carbon fiber/aluminum etc) which needs less HP/TQ for neck jerking performance

"hopefully" with a motor that is more than 35% power efficient!!!! 65% wasted heat out the pipes and radiator is rediculous

there are a number of ($$$$$$ today)these very light custom built street legal "hot rod" cars being built in Europe already....
the one from England is almost a F1 "two seater"...0-60 in <4 sec? 2 liter motor?....40+mpg?

a whole new plan: I think it is Ferrari who has built what I call the "ping pong ball" concept car.....SUPER light so if it does get hit it just bounces away...every inside part is designed to absorb energy away from the passengers....(bad plan!!!!...it would be "bumper cars" on the street!)

true dat' just don't wait for it to happen.....in the immortal words of Jeffery Lebowski......"follow the money , dude"

there is a huge cement plant south of the D/FW metroplex that belches out tons of pollution per year...and is a huge employer in a certain state Senator's district. Guess who shuts down any bill to try & regulate the emissions of said plant. Seems to me there are certain places in kalifornia that have banned charcoal lighter fluid & want converters on lawnmowers. All ways to "show everyone" the political system is concerned, while letting big corporations go on thier merry way.

Dont get me wrong, i'm all for having clean air & water, but we need to stand up for our individual rights, and let the large companies foot their part of the bill.

We need to educate folks that most of the Hot Rods that the tree huggers want to take aim at are not daily drivers, that they are (for the most part) well tuned and maintained, and are more eco friendly that the some of the newer vehicles.

Oops...i bought a hybred, & now it's gonna cost me 4500 dollars to get the trans fixed.

And don't get me started on electric cars...the charge voltage has to come from somewhere...you guessed it...a COAL fired electric plant. And what about when the car is worn out, or wrecked beyond repair. Who do you suppose is going to have to take care of "recycling" that battery, and all the associated electronics.
And ethanol is a freakin joke, that most of the american sheeple are buying right into.

rant off.....time for my meds

Hot Rodding by it's own definition will never die "To modify in order to obtain higher performance". The power plants will change and that is a fact, but there will always be the guy or girl in their garage who tinkers and comes up with a way to make it faster than what is was thought to be.

WE WILL SURVIVE! Now.... somebody get to work on a warp drive or something!

Al Gore was in Norway too. Talking to his rich friends that used private jet's (!) to come and listen to him. Very good for the planet and atmosphere (not!)
And after the speach those multi million $ folks told the rest of us to wake up and behave in a more "green direction".

Kiss my a**.

Don't misunderstand me. I don't want their money. They have probably deserved them. But a guy using his privat jet regulary is NOT in the position to tell me to stop driving a few hundred miles each summer in my enthusiast car.
That Jet plane let out more Co2 to the atmosphere on that single trip than my hot rod will do in a couple of seasons.

Most new diesels have to meet a NEW standard for pollutants, basically they want the air coming out of the motor to be cleaner than the air going in . My dad worked at mahle till earlier this year and they were working like crazy to stock pile parts up for Cummings, cat, and others because the motors that they have in stock to use can be used when the new law is pasted.

This is the reason that rotella has a new "formulation" for these new motors with more detergents to get rid of some of the hydrocarbons

Jeez Moss, you never told anyone you're coming to visit. Here in Kalifornia, San Joaquin valley, some of the dirtiest air in the country. But....they're still building huge dairies, gas belching, farting cows emitting gas at a rate that surpasses most vehicles, I wish I could remember that stat, but like you say, follow the money. Small groups are easy to pick on, the larger groups are well represented with money and power, both in their back pockets. Leaf blowers are still blowing dust and emitting pollution, noise and exhaust, push brooms are much cheaper, foreign deisel trucks are making their ways into the country, heqq, us rodders are easy targets. Dan

There was a 10 year study just completed by some scientists and they
published the results a couple of months ago.
It said the air was cleaner now than ever before in the last 10 years,
And because of the clarity, more sun is getting through to the
earths surface and that condition is increasing global warming.
So clear air is causing global warming

True story
(Rush Limbaugh had a field day with it)

Rush is a horses rear.
I heard him try to explain how it is good for our economy to be trading with the Chinese. Something to the effect that all of this money we send them will reform their government into a democracy, yea right!
