FWD Impala? Somebody needs to die.

Who came up with the idea for a FWD version? I wanna kill them, now. I mean slow, painful, torturous, screaming bloody murder 'till they go into shock kind of killin'. It's a gaddang oversized Cobalt!

http://www.fast-autos.net/chevrolet/...timpalass.html

I mean I want to kill.

Larry

I know we all (well almost all) here love our RWD, but the fact of the matter is FWD had been taught as gospel, so people automatically love it. Plus any dummy can drive one, you don't have to worry much about spinning the car around in the rain & snow.

Sadly if it were a full size RWD V8 impala no one would buy it. That's why they were canned so quickly in '96 after just a 4 year run.

We must have some REAL special dummies around here then because I see FWD's in the ditch pointed the wrong way every time it gets a little greasy out. I think they must receive special training because I don't see how any one could be born that inept behind the wheel.

The FWD "Impala" has been with us a few years......... It used to be called a Lumina........... but I agree that's just wrong.

Could they design a more plain and unenticing automobile? On the other hand, that's a nice SS sticker. They should put one on the Cobalt.

Cobalt SS..............?............That is SICK.

Even the cops have no choice now, but to go to FWD. I see a lot more SUVs being used as cop cars these days.

What gives? It seems the USA is the only first world country to accept large fwd cars.
All Europes large cars(except goofy 4wd Audis) are rwd. Ford, mitsu & toymota couldn't sell more than 5 full size fwd's here. mitsu keep trying, instead of going to jail like they should.
Holden and Ford continue to sell rwd cars here in 6 & v8 form, I guess we're just slow lerners who looooove rwd and dirt roads.

FWD Impala, WTH?!?!!? GM really is going downhill
If this keeps up, It wouldnt suprise me if they made the corvette FWD in a few years.
And when that day comes, don't be suprised if you see me on the news for rioting at GM trying to get RWD V8 cars back.

Thats why Chrysler is outselling everyone right now? Becasue nobody wants the V8 RWD cars...like the Magnum,300,Charger,etc?

My point precisely. SS is just riding on it's own wake.

My girl had a Beretta with "Beretta SS" decal on the upper quarter panels . The car is plain jane. I looked into it and found out Chev never made an SS Beretta. Clever marketing scheme by the corner lot owner. Not a far cry from today's Impala SS IMO.

I really don't see the issue with FWD car at all. Here in SA we mostly just have FWD except for the larger pick-ups and some of the more expensive luxury cars. I personally had a few and what I like about them is that you can really nail them around corners without getting tail happy at all.

Just my opinion.

Good point, but Daimler put some styling & marketing effort forward instead of trying to sell upside down bathtubs. The 96 Impala SS had some nice lines, but the rest of the models (Caprice, Roadmaster, DeVille) you couldn't pick out of the crowd. You see a 300C and you go WOW! It stands out in a crowd.

As far as I am concerned..If it dosen't have three tail lights on each side, it is not an Impala! You young guys may not be aware of this but that was the Impala trademark for years, the Biscane had two tail lights on each side but Impala always had three untill t hey dropped the line...Now we have these new ones.....Sheeesh these new ones ain't Impalas

Got that right... ......If we had an Impala, we would put the 3rd red light in place of the centre backup light.....looked real cool. The Corvette guys would add that 3rd light too. They spoiled all the fun in 66 when the 3 taillights was changed into a solid light. Came back with the 3 lights in 68.
