FYI: Hot Rod Bumpers

If anyone is building a street rod, rat rod or what ever you choose to call it and in particular a Model A Ford and you feel a little exposed in the rear you might want to think about a rear bumper or nerf bar. Here is (in my opinion) an easy and inexpensive answer to that issue. I'm building a 30 Model A Ford high boy roadster and I found that a bumper for a "Legends Series " race car from 600racing.com in Harrisburg, N.C. works great. They measure approx. 45" x 6 3/4" and the mounting points are 20 1/2" , come in chrome or plain. I got the the shiny one, its not show quality but at about $90. it was just right for me.

Covering your 6

Something else to consider, besides the safety issue. Here in Iowa, if you are building a "New Construction" vehicle, it requires inspection to get titled.
State law requires you to have bumpers on the vehicle that extend out to the widest point of tire track. You may also have rules requiring minimum and maximum heights the bumper must be from the road bed, how tall the bumper must be as well as at what speed an impact it must be able to withstand.
