I just got a 1951 Science & Mechanics magazine off ebay. I bought it for a wood carving article but it had a road test report on the 'new' '51 Chryslers. In the section on the hemi, it gave a static that I find hard to believe. They reported that the 331 hemi is 10% LIGHTER than the 1950 Chrysler flat head straight-8 it replaced!!! Considering the huge heads on the 331 and it's lo-tech thick wall castings, That straigh-8 must have been a monumental hunk of iron to outweigh the v-8.
