FYI on my own question

I didn't realize the question that I asked would be so an-answerable, but finally I got some info that helped alot, I think it might help others so I'll pass this along. The GM 7.5" 10 bolt rear from 76-88 had 26 spline axles and differential, 88 to present has 28 splines. Halipeno!! So now all I have to do is find out what length axles came on what and hopefully find a match for my 86 Monte which now has a post '88 Detroit Locker unit. Who said it ain't rocket science?
