'round here, they're generically known as a Kero-sun,...
It's basically an updated safer version of the ole kerosine Pot-burners of the earlier part of the last century...
Turned down low they usually don't smoke too bad, but if ya turn 'em up very high, Yep, real Smokers...
I think the Op is talkin' 'bout a pressure sprayed oil burner, a salamander...
If ya can stand the Roar, I think the salamander is a good heater, 'n somewhat directional...
If ya want quite heat, the Kero-sun has to heat the whole space by convection...
