G-body rear wheel width

What would be the widest rim and tire I can fit in the rear of my ss monte without notching the frame? I asked Summit and they replied that an 8" rim with a 4.25 offset would be as wide as they would go. I think that's a bit thin and I like the look of a wide rear wheel not to mention the traction gains. Any help would be great before I order rims I don't want to buy 8s and find out a 10 would fit. Besides the wider a center line convo is the better it looks.
