Garage Door Help

Hey guys,

I just purchased a house with a standard 16' wide garage door. The problem is that the top of the door will not shut against the top of the frame. I have about an inch and a half gap. I tried adjusting it but no luck. It is a newer alumium door with windows. The rubber seal you can buy isn't deep enough to cover the gap. Any suggestions?

Sounds like the door might not be framed right. Hard to tell without actually seeing it. Is it possible to snap a pic of the top area? There are a few things you can do to seal it. The standard door trim should be wide enough to go back to it. This is the piece that gos around the door perimeter itself and looks like a 3" x 1/2" thick either wood or plastic and has the rubber flat piece on it.

Thanks for the response and I thought of that but there has to be a reason why it won't shut properly. BTW, the door is square I'm perplexed?

does the door fit flat all the way down the sides?
is the door just not going down far enough to make the entire thing flat? if thats the case you will have to raise the tracks closer to the ceiling.
picture would help a lot if you can get one

It could also be that the top guide wheels are adjusted wrong or are just wrong altogether. The top two guide wheels / brackets should be adjustable to allow the door to be pushed in tighter at the top.

I had this same problem. I inverted the brackets on the top section of door to make the wheels sit lower in the track. Because the track curves away from the door frame at the top, this had the effect of bringing the door in closer to the frame at the top. Hope that made sense.
