Garage Floor Paint?

Hi All,

It gets very humid here in SETX, most times when the humidty is over 80% or so, my garage and carport floors gets damp enough to bead up. Would painting solve this or could the water be coming from underneath? Some contractors are now putting moisture barrier film over the rebar before pouring new slabs and that seems to stop this from happening, hence my wonderment at the "underneath" question...

Russ

the dampness is coming from the temperature of the floor being below the dew point of your environment (think glass of ice water). All the materials are stabilizing to the ambient moisture level. the under slap vapor barrier is to allow heating or cooling to dry out the air and slab above the moisture barrier and keep it from returning to ambient so quickly. You could install a HVAC system on your garage to dry the air and keep the slab above the dew point. your local weather will be able to tell you the dew point.

Never known the vapor barrier to be installed above the rebar. Gotta get the rebar near the center of the concrete to be effective.

Sorry, wasn't sure of where (exactly) the barrier went, just know it's somewhere under the 'crete...
