Night-In my weld shop we get gear boxes from mining equipment in here all the time with that sulfur smell just take the dang thing out and empty the oil and then rinse it out with mineral spirits and that will end your problem.

Quit farting in the van Anyways do you really think that going to Mexico is going to make your rearend smell any better?! Ever eat Mexican food...Pheeew-ee!
On a side note, how long do you think that it would take to drive down to Mexico from Canada?

Easy to get that smell out of the van, just put a box of baking soda under each seat.

For the rear, you are pretty much stuck unless you can rinse the whole assembly out with degreaser, or can get it acid bathed at a local shop.

I used to work in a parts store that also rebuilt semi trans & diffs. Gear lube can get nasty after 500,000 miles!

I leave the garage door open during days now so it can vent and it does the job just fine...I got the smell out of the van already. I'll be putting the rear out behind my house soon so I wont have to deal with the smell anymore.
Weimer, rough guess but I'd say about a week to Mexico from here.
