The "Budget" gas station may be selling 87 octane as 91...illegal actually..Usually these budget gas stations buy junk gas and pass it off to you..Dont buy from there anymore, pretty simple actually..

I try to stick with shell or marathon stations. I don't even pay attention to the price of gas at those budget gas stations that say they can sell it for that because they have long running contracts and don't make as much off from their gas because they are using their gas price as a draw to get people to come into their store and buy snacks and beverages and tobacco products. There is federal minimums that gas companies had to abide by, and they probably are not or are at the very bottom of the barrel gas

Is 91 all you can get in Ca? or is that mid grade? I know gas is high there as my mom's toyota uses premium, something like 3.31 a gal. Here in S. Indiana 93 is still under 3 bucks! I can use reg. unleaded at 2.62 a gal. but that changed today because it went up .16 cents between noon and 4 PM. WOW!

Reminds me of an old story. A fellow goes to the doctor and says "Doc, it hurts when I do this." The doctor says "Don't do this."

dam! 2 points less that prem. in Indiana and .35 cents more. What a rip off.
You need to move out here where you can do what you want, live free!

Sometimes, freedom is just another way to get screwed.

Unfortunately in many parts of the country regardless of the brand, it's the same gas, tho it might have some color additive or, if lucky, some 'special' detergent. Here in my part of Upstate NY there is Hess and everyone else. Mobil, Shell , Exxon, Sunoco, Citgo no longer have bulk plants and have moved operations elsewhere. There are still name brand stations but the delivery trucks are not dedicated to a particular brand. That truck that has a "Mobil" delivery today, might have had #6 fuel oil yesterday or, if you are lucky, maybe even some 93 left. In my area, there is no 'safe' gas except Hess - and lately, it smells strange.
