I disagree also, to each his own. This has been done too much already. There are some rat rod guys and gals on this site that probably do not want to read these comments. Not everyone likes everything.



I am sure that was not the point here. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think it is how the video portrayed the "bad boy" image, the language and probably the plain disrespect for other people on the road. Shoot, do that around here, at our not really so local, Saturday night hang out. Police everywhere...

I am suprised I thought people liked the burn outs etc and a bit of attitude. I was down it at a hot rod festival in Austin a few months ago and there were probably over 1000 people lining the streets with all sorts of cars (hot rods) - not many "rat rods" doing burn outs etc etc in front of the police.

Do people have a thing against Rat Rods or Gas Monkey, or just Richards attitude in the pod cast? - as for language - the podcast is pretty clean - maybe a couple of swear words maximum....

I know Gas Monkey have built many other cars that are not considered Rat Rods.

If the car is licensed in Texas it has to pass an inspection that is pretty thorough so the car is safe, you might not like the suspension travel or clearance but the government passes it and it has to be able to stop and steer safely too.. and safe for the bystanders too. but you are entitled to your opinion like I am mine, personally I'd rather ride in the sedan that feels the bumps down the road than ride in a rod that rides like a Cadillac and is painted and upholstered like a Caddy. If I ever wanted that I'd buy a Cadillac or Mercedes. It's individuality that makes this sport fun.

That car also has air ride, and the stance you see is with the bags bottomed out.

but your opinion about liking anybody doesnt really equate an equal comparison in this discussion. I used them as an example, This is a Hot Rodders website. period. shouldnt be slighted by any means or not help or favor any particular style. But then again its not "my" website and i dont run it so for now i just give my opinion on what i see.....

Sure, the presentation was admittedly bad but how many of you have seen their other rides? You can make a poor P.R. choice and still be a decent hotrodder/builder.

The video was like anything else posted on YouTube. I mean, its YouTube, if these guys were serious about this and pro they probably would've hosted it on their own website.
As for the sedan, it's got airbags front and back while keeping the solid axel look up front. If you've read some of the more popular rodding magazines a few months back you'll remember this car getting a little bit of recognition for the airbag setup while keeping a traditional look.

Your production company is part of the artificial bad-boy crew that is now masquerading as representatives of hotrodding culture. We have seen numerous television shows like your video. They all suck. You aren't the first production company rep to stop by here with some canned slick-talk. I'm sick of it, and I believe that if we continue to let it occur, then we are partially to blame.

Gas Monkey Garage may indeed put out nice cars. But they're clearly fake bad-boy sellouts. The video you posted is blatant self-promotion, from the very first line: "I'm Richard Rawlings, this is my hot rod shop Gas Monkey Garage; I'm quickly establishing myself as the anti-Christ of the hotrodding world." Who conjured up that lame line?

You came here to promote your video, to use us, because it ultimately results in you and your company making money. To do this under the guise of "helping a charity" is a very common tactic, and extremely duplicitous. Just like selling magic fuel-additive pills, like one of Gas Monkey's Sponsors, Dyno-Tab, as mentioned on the Gas Monkey Blog. I find it extremely ironic that your username is "dodgy", a word whose dictionary definition is "evasive, shifty, and dishonest".

I have seen that your video has been viewed over 1,500 times on YouTube. The way I see it, you, your production company, and Gas Monkey Garage have damaged hotrodding culture by perpetuating an artificial bad-boy image. I think it's our duty to attempt to repair that damage.

Don't worry, I saved the picture that you removed from your first post. I have altered it, and will re-post it as a parody of your foolishness. You can see some of my work in the attachments to this post. This is, of course, perfectly legal, and somewhat of an American tradition (Mad Magazine, Saturday Night Live, etc.) While the photo is distasteful, it is technically not against our pornography guidelines, so I feel it's OK to post. I've also included some photos with blank "thought balloons" and "word balloons". That way, people can easily compose their own parodies.

I will do this until these photos have been viewed at least as many times as your video -- which I can see stands at 1,582 views so far. We have a larger audience on the web than you, so this shouldn't be too hard. Your best bet is to pull the video off the web as soon as possible. You can tell the guys at Gas Monkey Garage that we would be thrilled with a video that focused on technical information. Information that can help us build or repair hot rods, without grandstanding, without pandering to the mainstream automotive media, without hidden agendas, and without convenient "product placements". We know they're talented and skilled, and we'd be grateful if they would be willing to share some of their knowledge with us. However, if their communication with us consists of attempting to parade their badness, then they should expect to be ridiculed.

If you don't remove the video from the web, someone may parody it, just as I've parodied the photos. A new soundtrack would be most appropriate.
