gas tank for 50 chevy truck

Hi:
I want to install an after market gas tank in my 50 chevy truck but I have a rear crossbar shock support that is in the way for most tanks. Does anyone know what might work? Thanks

There's plenty of room behind the rear axle. I put a 64 Nova tank in mine right there and it looked like it came that way.

Thanks for the reply Brian, Did you mount the tank to the frame or use straps? Also where did you put the filler tube?

I ran a 1 inch square tubing across the frame in front of the tank and ran straps under it to the rear crossmember. The filler was in a door I made using a hinge from a 60s Chevy in the fender.

Of course you could do what I am doing when I rebuild it, that would be running a 47-48 tank inside the right frame rail with a filler out the lower bed extension just as it was when new. The tank was moved to behind the seat in 49.

Good idea. I'll have to measure to see if my inside tank will fit. The tank is still good.

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear, it was a different tank in 47-48, completely different shape.
