Should work. Many older cars had tar paper.

I use old tire tubes between the tank and strap to isolate the mounts. Use them on numerous other places in car builds too. They work great, and free at most tire stores.

I used tarpaper cut with a straightedge. looks OE. It is also oily/greasy and repels water, and where the paper touches the tank is also oily. Should help it from rusting out under the straps.
I would think that waders or vynil material would hold water and also make static electricity. Just a thought.

thank u for the responses to my post.the reason i thought of the waders is because i was reading what the antisqueak kit was made out of and it said that it was a spongy type of neoprene and i figured that was exactly what the waders were made of.i never thought about the static electricity they might put out.i would like to hear more info if anybody knows if they do put out a static charge.last thing i want is to blow up my car and myself due to a spark.thanks again for your replies
