hi I would like to know how can I drain this old gas out of the tank and also I open the gas cap and all I see is rust the screen is just filled with rust I can't see in the tank how do I remove this screen?? thanks 1931 model a

There are lots of early Ford owners here ... some are even Model A folks.
I would suggest removing the entire fuel tank and then having it vatted ... at a radiator shop.

but how do I remove the cowl from the part that the gas cap goes on does it just turn of or?? I'm lost in this

All the model A's that I have seen ...the original gas tank and cowl are made together, the original little dash cluster actually mounts on the gas tank On my coupe I cut the gas tank out of the cowl and discarded it as it was way too rusty to fool with. Then I filled in the hole where the gas cap filler was. I then made a nice dash board to put in place and mounted a gas tank in the trunk. Saddle tanks to go behind the running board aprons are available and after market has a 32 style gas tank also to fit under the rear of the body. If you do decide to cut your tank out of the cowl be sure to flush the old gas out , vent it good flush with water again and be sure its full of water before you start cutting on it.

Gas tanks on 28-29 Model A:
The top of the tank IS the body skin where the gas cap screws on, EXCEPT on Fordors, Town Sedans, and Cabriolets where the cowl is similar to 30-31 using the cowl band. On these cars the tank is the same tank as the Coupes, Tudors and Pickups but has an outer skin overlay to change the cowl contour.

Gas tanks for 30-31 Model A:
All gas tanks for 30-31 Model are the same on all bodies.
