Gas tank leak. help plz

Hi all,
I have a bit of an emergency. I'm at my sister-in laws and she got a small hole in her gas tank. She just had a new one put in a year and a half ago and it is leaking again. They put a new tank in but did not fix the cause. The exhaust pipe is rubbing a hole in it. I was wondering if I could just use some of the Permatex gas tank putty on it and move the exhaust a bit. Anyone use this stuff?
Please help!
Merry Christmas

You prbably will not be able to get anything to stick to it as long as it is wet. Once it is dry I would use some two part epoxy on it, but the tank really needs to be replaced to be safe.

I've heard that the putty works fairly well depending on how large the hole is. If it was just a tiny hole, I wouldn't mind giving that putty a try but make sure the tank is empty so it can be nice and dry for the appropriate bond. As 302 mentioned, it would probably be better to replace the tank but first figure out a way to relocate that exhaust furthur away from the tank!

just out of the blue why is the exhaust rubbing you should check youre system for broken or worn out mounts or maybe its bent which can seriously hinder performance hand in hand with gas mileage, save youre self more money and heartache and make sure the root problem is taken care of

i learned the hard way fix the problem not just the symptoms, im working on my fifth engine rebuild because of a faulty intake system

Doc here,

Heat, Sparks and Fuel....Hummm...I think I'll take the bus....

Move and solid mount that pipe!!!

Then assess the amount of damage to that tank, If it has worn through twice..It may have given it's all..and a better plan would be replacement..

If you Do repair it, and you can't get a bunch of distance between Ignition source and fuel source (pipe & Tank) Glue a sheet of rubber pad (a computer mouse pad would work..) , about 1/4 inch thick to that area of the tank in case it ever hits it again..

Don't go Blazin any trails...
