gas tank pickup/sender MOD.

how can you eliminate a GM in tank fuel pump and still use sender as pickup if this is possible do you use a filter sock on pickup tube or a external pre pump filter? I have no objections to using aftermarket sender/pickup if stock locking ring seals sender in tank.( sbc running mech. fuel pump) any help would be appreciated thanx

I would think it would be an easy matter to just weld or solder a tube in place of the pump, cutting the tube just above the pump and extending it down into the tank

You don't even need a sock, the sock is there to protect the in-tank pump, with a mechanical pump you just run an inline filter somewhere between the tank and motor. I have seen socks on stock, non FI pickups, but they are not absolutely necessary.

I've put an entire new tube in the tank plate also, just be careful when you cut out the old one, that tube and plate is thin and filling gaps is a pain.

Also, watch out when welding on that sender, the steel is zinc plated and welding it makes harmful fumes.

Later, mikey
