with a 10 gallon tank you are putting the gas in to fast. think of it as a harley you do not fill it up full force.

Add a vent

If the tank has a small filler neck it needs a fill tube vent to let the air out, the vent should be connected to the main fill tube above where a gas station nozzel ends, that way the tank is sealed when the cap is installed and it should have a combination vent-roll over valve on the top of the tank. As a side note when I was an engineer at Ford an accountant was crunching numbers and found that Ford had about 3 times as much profit margin on the 3 gallons of gas they put in each car, He proposed putting in more fuel and adding it to the window sticker invoice. He was given a new mustang for the suggestion. a few years later when the production rate increased there wasn't enough time without gas splashing out when the fill tube on the gas tanks started having the internal flapper valve. His idea was to add a 3 ft clear vinyl tube to the end of the fill nozzel and that put the fuel into the bottom of the tank and they could pump in 7 gallons in 40 seconds. No spills.
