Gaskets

Hello,
I'm building a 454. I believe it was cast to be a 427 in 1969 but was cut to accept the larger crank, etc for the 1970 454 year. My problem is finding the correct head gaskets. I've tried calling summit for felpro and both times I've received what appears to be the wrong ones. They have sent both #1027 #1071-1. The problem is that the dia. of the holes in the gasket for what I think is the water chambers are much too small. This will cause the potential for higher temps. Does anybody actually know the correct felpro gasket # for this engine. It's a hi-perf block.

There's nothing wrong with either of the gaskets they sent you. The water passage holes in the gaskets are not necessarily the same size as the holes in the block or heads. The 1027 is a bore of 4.370" and is 0.039" compressed.
The 1071 is a bore of 4.380" and is 0.041 compressed.

Use either one.
