gaskets or no gaskets

I'm stuck on something and need a Chevy expert's help, please.

On the picture I just took and posted you see both the attachment points for the oil pump and the filter adapter. My gasket kit does not include ones for either, leading me to wonder if either spots is supposed to have a gasket.

Both are encased in an oil atmosphere when the engine's 'put together' but I'm hesitant to bolt up metal on metal without a gasket. Especially when we're talking about oil under pressure.

What's the word on this? And thanks much for helping a newby!
Hi tom,, your oil filter adapter has a raised lip where it contacts the block to seal. The oil pump is a machined surface on both. I tend to run a file on both surfaces, pump/block, before assembly..Good Luck Jim
