Post re: gear drive

Yup, I think that IF I was hell-bent on using a gear drive, I would use a two gear set-up with helical cut gears and use a reverse rotation cam. (The idler gear looks like a good place for some additional slack to show up.) Still going to have that problem with harmonics being transfered through the valve train and distributor, tho.

Post re: gear drive

i gotta Erson drive from Super Shops back in 95 and had no probs. tore it apart last year and no signs of wear. put it back on and no probs. it has a single idler gear tho, and some think the dual idler gear set ups lose their accuracy after awhile--couldnt tell you. the bad vibe thy. sounds logical. my mill never turned over 6300 with the isky cam and only spins to somewhere in the 5's now tho. i've also heard they take more h.p. to drive than chains so if i was racin probly wouldnt use it. i just got it for the sound effects/
