Gear or no Gear ... thats the Question !

Well... the problem is the tranny and its shifting and or lack there of... It's a 91 Caprice 305 4speed auto.. i think its a 700r4.. but i don't know... the owner couldn't tell me for sure. I put it in drive.. and.. stays in first... go to manually shift it.. wen it goes into 3rd.. revs out... no gear.. back to 2nd.. and will only go into gear with lots of gas.. and then you have to slow down... it comes out of gear when you take your foot off throttle.. At all times its either in first of second... wont go into other gears.. i told him that as far as i know its due for a rebuild.. at least to some extent.. the fluid is fairly clean not burnt.. aswell its level is where it should be! If you could tell me any more with what ive told you than thanks...

You should be able to ID the transmission from reading this thread.

Sorry I can't help with the problem all i know about transmissions is they work on the FM Principle
