Gear pattern or measurements?
So far I've set up 4 ring and pinions by using my gauges, checking pattern , make adjustments, check pattern again etc,. untill I get the proper pattern. No problems or noise. Now I'm setting up a rearend in a 1955 tractor. Because I have limited info. should I just do the trail and error method till I get the proper pattern?

In a word, Yes.
Using gear tooth patterns will always get it right.... |
