gear ratios in a 4x4 front vs. rear....
so... I'd always thought the front and rear differentials had to be the same gear ratio. I've discovered i have a dana 44 front with 4.10's, and a danged chrysler rear with 3.55's.... and it was the rear that was smoked. not that i didn't discover that until after i replaced the front carrier bearings.... so, does the gear ratio need to match?

Somebody has obviouslly changed either the fronts or rears....
They need to be the same. Usually, the front is slightly shorter, so that it pulls away a slight bit from the rear, so they don't bind........like 4.10 front and 4.11 rear.
