gears

I have a 67 chevy C-20, and I was wondering where I could find gears? Someone changed the tranny with a turbo 350, and I think the rear has 4:56's in it. Its a sunday driver, but its way too low geared, at 55 the tach is running at about 2900. Major gas hog. Its not a dana rear, how do I know how big the ring and pinion is?

turn the driveshft and count the wheels rotation. it will give you a rough idea. if its a open diff, have one person hold the other tire(its jacked up) and divide the final number by 2

if your going cruisng at 65 , i recommend a 3.08

Thats about where my BBC turns at 55 in my 69 PU and it has 4.56 rear gears with 28.5 tall tires... Measure the tire height to be sure... Also take a look here to help with your figuring...

Why not install a 700R4 automatic OD transmission and get the BEST of both worlds.......low gears for taking off and a OD for mileage......

4.56 minus 30 percent Od = 3.19 .......in 4th gear,,,,,,

Did that in my truck and didn't have to cut the driveshaft.
