General 12 Bolt question

I've just got a general question about 12 bolt rear ends. I'm incredibly new to hotrodding and just bought a 54 Chevy pick-up. Well, the rear end is shot in it, so my mechanic friend who is going to fix it told me to look for a new one on eBay. He told me what to look for only my searches get me nothing nor do searches on google. I'm not sure if I'm just not using the correct terminology.

I'm just going to replace what was originally on there. It's some kind of set-up where only one wheel spins. It has a 1:3.07 gear ratio, I think. If that doesn't sound right, I might have just done it wrong. There are 43 teeth on one gear and 14 on the other.

Anyhelp for this newbie would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you are looking for a truck rear, they are very easy to find.
I have 12-bolt truck axles here with 2.73, 3.08, 3.55, 3.73, and 4.10 gears, and a few 10-bolt rears too.
I also have 14-bolt axles with 3.73, and 4.10.
I have many Dana 44 and 44HD front axles, along with GM 8.5 inch front with many different ratios.
I also have 3 IH Scout axles 1 front with 3.54 gears, and a matching set of 2.42 geared front and rear (rear has limited slip).
GM axles are almost too easy to find.

We decided just to go junk yarding. Thanks for the reply, though.

That is pretty much what I was implying as there are so many of these axles out there just rusting away in something that will never run with the current owner. There are too many poeple out there who are just like myself, having saved way too much stuff they eventually realize they don't need.

In my 13 years at my current location I have parted out more than 30 Chevy/GMC 2 and 4 wheel drive trucks, a few 4WD S-10's, 2 2wd S-10's and more than 25 cars of various makes and models, so I have more than too much just sitting around.

Junkyards around here want $50 for a complete axle unless it meets their criteria for being desireable.
