general engine mount question

I have a 55 chevy pickup that im putting a 350 into. Now I bought one off those engine crossmember adapters that are made out off black pipe that has the sliding sleeve on both ends. I have never used one before so first question is are they worth a crap. It just seems mighty lite to me. And second question is once you have it in and bolted to the frame should you weld the sleeve so it wont pivot. I was concerned that welding the sleeve would make the pipe brittle and cause it to crack down the road. Not a good situation to have.

I have one in my 49 5w p/u and it's ok. Yes, you do have to weld the tubes together. two things I don't like about it are 1.) the tube comes down farther than if you fabbed mounts yourself and 2.) the motor mounts are a P.I.T.A. :smash: on my 49 when installing the motor due to the fact that you have to come straight down into them.No front rear jiggle room. :mwink:
