General Motors 350 Engine

My daughter located an engine that she is trying to ID but the numbers she gave me don't add up either. She says the numbers on the block are V0421CWI but I can't reference them, Can someone help me?

Are you sure it is a 350cid? The numbers are as follows.

V= Flint plant
04=april
21=21st day
CWI= big block 454 1973 250hp

The suffix CWI does not cross to a small block.

The casting number you need from the block is on the driver's side, on a flat area just behind the valve cover. If the engine is installed in a vehicle, you are usually looking straight down, just to the left (passenger) side of the power brake booster. Since this area is flat, it will have collected any oil and dirt from valve cover leaks, and it might be hard to read.
