General Motors starts selling cars on eBay tomorrow

Quote:
The government-rescued automaker announced on Monday that it is starting a trial in which consumers can buy new cars through eBay, the online sales site, allowing buyers to purchase Chevrolets, Buicks, GMCs or Pontiacs before they set foot in a dealership.

The program will be initially limited to California, but the company hopes to extend it across the country.

This is interesting not only in regard to GM per se, but as a harbinger for the future of car sales. I'm curious as to what will follow. Chrysler selling cars on Craigslist?

I'v never seen that b4. interesting.. kinda makes sense, but it brings the whole shop from home thing to a new level... quite a few of my local dealers will put in classefied ads for new vehicles, but never auctions.

Unless I'm missing something, this doesn't seem like anything new. Dealers have been pawning new cars on Ebay for years. When the GT-500 Mustang came out 4 years ago, they were taking bids on the over the sticker price, $15,000+.

OK, I checked out the website. They have stepped up the game a little so it's a comprehensive search for what your looking for. I wonder if that opens up the entire invetory on the dealers lot to this sales format.

Took our Rav 4 to get it's 25,000 mile maintenance today and while I was there I found out that the "cash for clunkers" had been so successful for them that they were running out of new vechicles to sell, especially the Tundra PU.

I jokingly told the Salesman to check Ebay and Craigslist and see if they could restock their inventory - - - lmao

Our passion

I went up to a freinds big recycle yard today to get rid of some cans I been saving 2.00 worth but what I saw was absolutely amazing.Row after row of Camaro's an other cars in a series of long lines with the hoods up and guys working under the hoods.I love those OLD GM cars but seeing them like that told me what this dude in the govt is doing.ANY way the bodies on these cars looked great and frankly awhile back the owner and I made a deal,He would hold the old cars for me and I'd buy by weight. But he backed out and my money ran out.Geez is there not a way to save these old cars,Even if they were electric by law ,wouldnt you rather have an older car with a ton of batteries than a foreign thing that makes the dealers richer.I am too old to wonder any more.WE are heading fast down a trail I do not want to go
