general questions

im just now getting into hot rodding and i was wondering if it would be easier to build a 351 windsor stroker or a 390 stroker, and if i bore the motor .30 over will i need to get different pistons than the ones that come with the stroker kit?

depends on the kit..........You can order oversize stroker pistons.........When building a 383 Chevy, it calls for a .030 overbore on a 350 block.

A stroker is an engine with a modified crankshaft (and other parts) to have a longer stroke, resulting in more cubic inches.......

A crate engine is a rebuilt engine from a large engine shop that builds many at a time to keep costs down.....Kind of like the Walmart of engine shops.

There is a real difference between a Ford 390 FE big block and a 351 Windsor. What are we working on and trying to do?

Not only that but sometimes it's cheaper/more practical to buy a crate engine rather than have a shop do it for you.

Myself it would be the Windsor..Lots have been done with those and good aftermarket parts are readily available..

The 351 will be far cheaper, but if you are working with a 60's Ford car, a well done FE will make gobs of HP and torque, and they look and fit right for that era. You will have to dig deep for serious speed parts but a stock level build isn't too pricey. They made millions of them but since they quit building them in 76 they are getting harder to find for low budget builds.

An exchange is a rebuild.

A crate is a new engine assembled for performance.
