I have a 1960 Willys truck (226L) that I want to upgrade to an alternator. I have a new 3 wire alternator. My research has made me more confused as to the correct way to hook the wires up. Obviously, I want to do it right the first time.

OK, Not up on what Willy's Has for wiring at the regulator, But to wire a 3 wire, Internally regulated, GM SI type alternator, set it up as Follows:

• Terminal #1 = RED 10 gauge, To PROPER Fuse link And power at the solenoid terminal.
  
• Terminal #2 = RED 12 Gauge, To Horn relay power Or can be jumped to terminal #1.
  
• Terminal # 3 = BROWN 14 gauge wire To charge lamp Or if none, not used.
  
  
• Terminal (or) Lug #4 = BLACK 10 gauge, To ground buss at or near the Starter on Engine block.

That should get you up and charging.
