As much as we may kick and scream, electric cars are coming. As fuel prices climb towards the $6-7 dollar range they'll come faster and faster. Which brings me to this, I'll bet my electric car (when I get one!) is faster then yours. Wanna race for plugin time?

I heard a program on the radio the other day that stated, once you figure the cost and environmental impact of manufacture and disposal of batteries and of electricity to power these things, that they are no more efficient than a good diesel powered car.....just saying

IF they make the battery pack servicable,
If they build the car to last 15-20 years (isn't that the idea of these ,not to waste energy? IF the greenies get off the no nukes, no wind farms, no hydro power.. and the country builds up it's electric grid and surplies.. as seen as I don't see this happening anytime soon,(greenies are they're own worst enemy) I'll stick to my 28 year old 4cyl fiero and is 28 city 38 hyway.. oh the mpg this would get with a sonic drivetrain.. sadly the best thing for dailydrivers type cars would be a loss of hp.. no matter how you slice it, it take fuel to make more power.. I'd love to see the mpg if they just took and dropped the hp in the "econoboxes" to 95-100 hp.. the electric car will do ok at caddy, as the cars are not cheap to start with, (a sour point with the CHEVY volt) and there are a ton of caddy owners that don't put lotta miles on their cars.. quite a few only meet oilchange needs in a year from the seasonal trip down the coast to get out of the cold for the winter.. electric cars that have a gas backup.. like the volt.. seem great in a city area that you don't get much past 35mph because of traffic and lights every 100yards.. the nail in their coffin will be if the coming sun storms ,do indeed know out the electric grid, if I was g.m. I'd make the electric all it's own brand.. not a caddy not a chevy.. it's own brand.. this allow the brand name not take hits from the babysteps in this technology.. and allow every one of their dealers have them.. |
