Actually the official word was my upper stomach valve stopped working and it allows acid to splash up in to the tube and eventually pissed it off enough to become inflamed. But GERD is what they are calling it. I don't know if I'll get better eventually or not. Doc app. this afternoon gives me as chance to find out more stuff.

it took me a month of doubling up on the prilosec for it to go away. that was four years ago. haven't had much trouble since then, nothing that a couple of tums now and then can't handle. that protonix is really good, but it is real expensive now. what gets me, is prilosec is the parent drug of the nexium and the protonix, which are hi dollar, but prilosec is otc now. why do our doctors waste our money prescribing these new expensive drugs?

oh yeah, cause someones got their hand out.

The plan is two a day for 6 months and then we can try one a day. Three weeks till I should really feel some relief. Biggest problem right now is early satiety and lack of appetite. When I do force myself it does a number on me. It managable though, after some gettin use to. Hopefully I'll get like some of you guy's and it almost go completely away.

Did your doc say anything about chewing sugarless gum between meals? It's supposed to help. Dan

GERD and your teeth

I'm dealing with it too, have stopped eating large meals late in the day, no more onions or jalapenos. While you're working on the problem, don't forget that the acid can destroy your teeth. Try to remember to rinse with baking soda before brushing first thing in the morning, will help with the abrasives in the toothpaste wearing the softened tooth structure. Have them checked to see if you're having any destruction. Bill

I use Zantac 75. Got really bad since taking my gal bladder out. Use to get colds and that would make me barf up breakfast every morning til they did an endoscopy on me. For some reason that seemed to help and losing some weight also seemed to help and sensible eating. I don't have to take it all the time now just when I need it. (probably same as beenway says. cutting back on caffeine and fats).
