i have on the front of motor FObI5IG Y 224266 Does anyone know what this means phil philly283@yahoo.com its a 396 in a 70 chevelle, not sure on the 3rd letter b I was toll long ago it is a motor from a 65 impala need help (hippie )

You'd probably get some responses if you told us what it is. Ford, GM, Chrysler........

Fair warning though, when you say "motor" around here you might be asked if it's 12 or 6 Volt. For now we'll assume you are referring to a gas engine aka "motor".

I have a 396 engine in my 70 chevelle I know its not the original motor, on the pas. side front of valve cover is TO(b?)I5IG Y 224266 does anyone have a clude..I was told a long time ago it was out of a 65 Impala (the motor)

Could it be TO615 IG Y 224266?

"IG" is the engine code for a 396 with Powerglide form a '65-'67 full size Chevrolet and would be a 325HP. The TO indicates it was assembled at the Tonawanda, NY engine plant, 615 is the assembly date code which indicates June 15th. The "Y" has me puzzled at the moment, it doesn't belong there as I recall. The "224266" are the last 6 digits of the VIN from the car it came out of. You'll have to determine the year from casting dates on the heads and/or block. If it's a '65 it will have an oil groove in the rear cam journal if you ever pull the cam out.
